Debbie Hart, Kimberly Lagge, Carrie Beyer, Angela Hardin

The TCA Peer Crisis Support Task Force offers Peer Crisis Support training that meets the eligibility requirements for volunteering on the Peer Crisis Support Team. Volunteers may join the TCA-managed registry, which supports counseling peers managing crisis events in their communities. Training will include relevant skills, resources, preparation, response and post-response protocols, self-care, ethical considerations, and role-play and discussion.

Learning Objectives:

1. Attendees will be able to identify specific crisis criteria eligible for response and define compassion fatigue, vicarious trauma, burnout, and impairment by the end of the training.

2. By the end of the training, attendees will have gained an understanding of relevant individual skills (e.g., active listening, grounding, breathing, communication skills), resources, the importance of self-care, and the ethical considerations of Peer Crisis Support.

3. Attendees will be able to describe the stages of peer crisis response, including training and preparation, crisis-response protocols, and post-response protocols, including documentation requirements.
