Building Resiliency Among Generation Z in a Social Media Driven World

Generation Z's constant connection to information has changed human development in a variety of ways, and new strategies must be implemented to reach and connect with youth. Information processing, social skills, social identity, and coping skills have been affected by the way youth communicate. This program will allow participants identify Generation Z’s characteristics, strengths, and needs, along with innovative strategies to develop resiliency among children and adolescents of today.

Learning Objectives:

1. Participants will be able to clearly identify the differences between Generation Z and previous generations by looking at their specific characteristics, strengths, and needs associated with their development.

2. Participants will identify how social media has shifted the development of healthy social skills, interpersonal interaction, information processing, coping, empathy, sleep, study habits, and communication.

3. Creative experiential activities will be used to help participants conceptualize and apply culturally competent interventions in a school setting. The interventions presented will increase resiliency, coping strategies, and school achievement among Generation Z.
